NORTH STAR GYPSY cautions the buying public on terms given to Gypsy Horses for which there is no real definition. Terms such as: Five-Star, Gold, Select, Certified, Premium. These terms are suggestive ways of trying to create an elite horse in sales promotion. If they are not backed by standards other than the owner's words, they are just words.

"Premium" is a Western European equine term and does not compare or transcend to long established ratings of any kind in the USA for the Gypsy Horse, Gypsy Cob or Gypsy Vanner at this time.

NORTH STAR GYPSY urges prospective horse buyers to shop around; ask questions; and not be pressured in any way to make purchase of a horse that is not what they really want. In the breed's short and recent import history we have many horses coming into this country with unknown heritage. Current trend is to establish documentation on as many horses as possible, with DNA going on file to help in validating parentage. You may find excellent horses with no paper trail, as that has been the way of the Gypsy horse breeders of the UK and Ireland.

NORTH STAR GYPSY also urges prospective horse buyers to educate themselves regarding what a quality Gypsy Horse is.

That it should be a heavy boned compact horse with feather that covers the front of the hoof, a must have; with lots of feather off the back of the leg from the back of the knee down. Conformation details should be noted.

Read the BREED STANDARD. Verify Ancestry if you can. It will not always be available. Understand what a young horse may look like compared to a mature horse.

Quality Gypsy Horses are the result of several generations of selective breeding on the part of the UK Gypsies. Each of North Star's imported horses was carefully selected on it's own merit to exemplify the Gypsy Horse at it's best.

Our Gypsy Horses are purebred and DNA'd already or being presented to the DNA data base. Their pedigrees show them to be from well known Gypsy Horses such as

The Old Horse of Wales; The Old Horse of Ireland;

The Roadsweeper (UK); Shogun; Lion King;

Samson UK; The Buck Horse/The Producer; Laddie.

We now boast of super foals to carry forward the breed as it was intended by it's creators, the Gypsies of the UK.
